The renewed interest in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy for the treatment of psychological disorders marks the so-called "psychedelic renaissance". While these medicines have been used within indigenous, non-European cultures around the world for millennia, a lack of diversity and inclusion of people from such communities and other minority groups are seen within psychedelic research. With the growing acceptance of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, it is important to consider the issues that are contributing to this lack of diversity, to move towards increasing representation. Given the variety of experiences participants may present with, such as race-based trauma, consideration should be given to cultural competencies and diverse clinical teams.
