Special thanks to user "jonathankiels" for gifting me this game. Final Fantasy XII has a special place in my heart - I remember getting it Halloween in 2006, and it brought me countless hours of fun. It might not have the strongest story or gameplay of any of the games in the Final Fantasy franchise, but it definitely is high up there and is unique.

I played this originally on a CRT television in 4:3 aspect ratio. Now with modern technology I can enjoy this title in 1080p beauty, and playing it as an older adult I can see that I missed subtle cues in the story too. It really is a nice title to revisit - not necessarily my favourite FF game, but it is one that I certainly do enjoy.

I really like how the dialogue was performed, it actually feels like a Shakespeare kind of play - it doesn't feel like an anime kind of Japanese game you see flooding the market nowadays (back when anime used to be more medieval, like the old Fire Emblem games).

If you want to do everything in this game, you'll be playing for 100 hours plus. I got the platinum trophy for this game and it's not tough, but it is long and certainly does require a degree of bookkeeping. The amount of postgame content really is amazing, and I'd argue that this one has the most postgame content of any Final Fantasy game, with the sole exception of FFX. So much fun content, and even though the many optional bosses are just palette swaps of preexisting enemies, it's still amazing to see all of the work the developers put into the game.

It is a bit sad that you pretty much need a guide to hunt the rare game enemies, but otherwise you can play through the game blind and the game will give you clues on where to go and where not to go.
