2023 Maruti Suzuki Engage | Innova Hycross Gets A New Badge | A Maruti With ADAS ? Will You Get One

As part of the global partnership between Toyota and Suzuki, several rebadged models have been introduced in India. Toyota has expanded its entry-level lineup with the Glanza, while Maruti Suzuki aims to strengthen its presence in the premium segment.

Recently Maruti Suzuki Chairman RC Bhargava revealed that, the company is sourcing a premium hybrid MPV from Toyota. So it's non other than the Innova hycross.

The company has applied to trademark the name 'Maruti Suzuki Engage' for the upcoming rebadged version of the Innova Hycross. However, the application is still pending approval, with the current status reading 'Formalities Check Pass.' If the Engage trademark is rejected, Maruti will need to consider other options for the rebadged Innova Hycross.

While Maruti manufactures the Glanza for Toyota, the company's version of the Hycross will be built at Toyota's Bidadi plant alongside the Grand Vitara. The new Maruti version is expected to have a new fascia, with Nextre LED DRLs, revised tail lamps, and unique alloys. It will also come in different exterior color shades, including Nexa blue.

The cabin will remain largely unchanged, with new color themes, upholstery, and Maruti's logo at the steering center. Similarly, there won't be any significant changes to the features offered either.

Toyota currently offers five trim levels for the Hycross, G, GX, VX, ZX and ZX (O), which may be equivalent to the Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Alpha, and Alpha Plus trims offered with Nexa vehicles. The Hycross is currently available with two engine options, a naturally aspirated unit and a strong hybrid powertrain.

It is unclear whether Maruti will source the entire Hycross lineup, or just the hybrid variants. However, demand for hybrid variants of the Innova Hycross is high, with Toyota selling 5,755 units in March 2023, beating the likes of the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari.

To meet the increasing demand, including the upcoming Maruti version, Toyota is working to increase production at its existing facility by starting a third shift. The Maruti version of the Hycross is expected to launch after mid-2023, in two or three months' time.
