Minnesota State Sen. Zaynab Mohamed (DFL-Minneapolis) tells WCPT 820's Patti Vasquez that just being one of the first three Black women in the state Senate — alongside being a Black, Somali, Muslim, female senator — has already given people across the nation hope.

"I very often will go back to the picture of when I was getting sworn in, and my mom was there. And I will read the quote tweets, and I just see like so many people across the country just being so proud ... These seats are so much more than us. It's not about us as individuals; it's about the people you represent. It's about how it makes them feel and having those folks see themselves in me, I think, is the most powerful."
