The Great Motorboat Tour is on the north Cornwall coast but is now delayed by seriously bad weather. Our two men in a boat eventually restart their home run passing the Longships lighthouse as they round Land's End. Shark Bay meets the Isles of Scilly ferry as they head towards the evocative seaside names of Mousehole, Newlyn and Penzance. Skipper John Boyle reflects on whether St MIchael's Mount stands comparison to the other spectacular places they've seen...this video shows this iconic landmark in wonderful close-up detail.

29/32 Padstow to St Michael’s Mount…mechanical problems sorted but now the weather is against them again!

All our engine problems turned out to be due to a short circuit in an earth wire, but by the time this was discovered the weather had turned against us. And with strong south-westerly winds making rounding Land’s End impossible, we left Shark Bay alongside the key in Padstown’s inner harbour.

Not the glorious end to our trip that we’d planned – it was to be a further couple of weeks before we could complete the voyage.

Well this is it – the final turning point of our journey. We’re tucked inside the Longship’s Lighthouse, just off Land’s End, the most westerly point of Britain, and from here on in straight into Mount’s Bay – home territory – home cruising ground for us. We left Padstown really early this morning – we’d been trapped there for a couple of weeks due to the engine problems and then bad weather – but fantastic conditions today. Feeling myself on board again and I’ve got my grandson Josh joining us for the final leg of the journey. So this is it! Our home run.

We crossed the bow of the Scillonian as she passed the Ronald Stone buoy.

That was the Scillonian - the Isles of Scilly ferry. Steaming out there into the sea, wasn’t she? Really powering into it.

While we’ve been doing this trip we’ve visited some amazing places around the coast, and I’ve been blown away by them. I used to think Cornwall had it all but I’ve seen places which have proved me wrong. We’ve just done a little cruise along the coast, past Mousehole Harbour, along the seafront past Newlyn, past Penzance and now we’re here at Marizion off St Michael’s Mount. And it’s reminding me that Cornwall still takes a hell of a lot of beating!

So now, the very final leg of the journey.
