What happens if you overstay your U.S. visa? If you're in the United States on a visa and your authorized stay is coming to an end, it's crucial to understand the potential consequences of overstaying. If you overstay for less than 6 months, your visa will be voided, revoked or canceled the moment you leave the country. And you will therefore be denied re-entry on that visa. You can apply for a new visa in your home country, but you'll have a lot of explaining to do.

If you overstay your U.S. visa from between 6 months and 1 year, you will be automatically barred from the United States for at least 3 years the moment you leave the country.

And if you overstay your visa by more than 1 year, you will be automatically barred from the United States for a minimum of 10 years the moment you leave.

So, don't overstay your visa - not even by one day. It's not worth it if you want to live, work, or otherwise remain in the United States legally.
