Sachin Pavithran, a blind assistive technology
specialist at the USU Center for Persons with Disabilities, uses RG to navigate an indoor route in a navigation experiment.

The robot is equipped with an RFID reader-antenna unit and a laser range
finder. The RFID unit detects passive RFID tags on the walls. Each tag
localizes the robot and triggers specific navigation behaviors to get
to the next tag in the current path plan.

Sachin is holding onto a leash attached to the back of the robot. Barsto,
Sachin's guide dog, is just walking along. He is not participating in
the navigation process.

After this experiment was over, we replaced the robot's leash with a firm
PVC handle, because Sachin and many other visually impaired participants
in the experiment complained that the leash did not give them the sense
of direction of where the robot was going, especially during turns.

At the end of the route, the robot tells Sachin, "You have reached the
destination," when it recognizes the destination's RFID tag on the wall.
