According to a message on his Instagram page, the songwriter passed away on Monday at his California home in the company of his loved ones. "One of the world's greatest road warriors, John, has finally found peace after health issues forced him to end his epic touring career," the statement read. "John Mayall gave us 90 years of tireless efforts to educate, inspire and entertain," said the statement. Mayall started the Bluesbreakers in the 1960s; he was raised in Manchester after being born in Macclesfield. He's been called the "godfather of British blues" and is acknowledged for having contributed to the development of a blues revival among white musicians in England. While "the scene in America was racially segregated at the time," Mayall stated to the Guardian in 2014 that "the black blues began to be heard by an audience that was not listening to them in America" in Europe and England. Music experts hailed the Bluesbreakers as one of the most important blues bands in history following the release of their 1966 record with guitarist Eric Clapton. Additionally, the group served as a training ground for other well-known rock performers, including as Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones, Peter Green, John McVie, and Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac. This further cemented Mayall's standing as a significant talent magnet. Choosing band members according to the sound he was going for, he told the Guardian that he "managed to pick out some pretty special people". Based on his biography on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Mayall came to Los Angeles in 1969 and went on to lead bands, put out dozens of records, and tour the US and Europe. Six children, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren survive Mayall, according to the family statement.
