The Kaohsiung Metro is the mass transit system for the city of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. In 1991, the Executive Yuan approved the Red Line and Orange Line as the first phase and first stage of construction. The system was completed and began operations at the end of 2008. The total length of the two lines is 42.7 kilometers, connecting the Taiwan Railways, Taiwan High Speed Rail, and Siaogang International Airport. The Kaohsiung Metro Red Line is a north-south metro line, stretching 28.3 kilometers from Siaogang Station (R3) to Gangshan South Station (R24) (now Kaohsiung Medical University Gangshan Hospital Station) with 24 stations. The Kaohsiung Metro Orange Line is an east-west metro line, with a total length of 14.4 kilometers and 14 operational stations. Additionally, the metro network currently under construction includes the Gangshan-Lujhu Extension Line, the Siaogang-Linyuan Line, and the Kaohsiung Metro Yellow Line.
