Today we are at Hellifield in the Yorkshire Dales.
This architecturally fascinating station complex was expanded by the Midland Railway in 1880, and is famously on the Settle-Carlisle Railway line. It almost fell into disrepair in the 1980s before being largely restored in 2013.
It is now a vitally important station for trains to Leeds and Skipton, Ribblehead and Appleby and Carlisle, and trains to Clitheroe and Blackburn and to the coast at Morecambe.
The station also has some decent sidings; so that trains often wait here for crew changes and pause as faster trains work the schedules. One of the trains you often see waiting are the steam and diesel railtours operated by West Coast Railways, from their depot at Carnforth a few miles away.
As well as the Grade 2 listed architecture, diesel freight passes through the station every day; a real attraction for rail fans and trainspotters. You will also see the freight traffic which uses the quarry at nearby Horton-in-Ribblesdale; and railfreight which uses the Carlisle railyard.
This little station also has a wonderful station buffet too.
