DIY: Volkswagen Golf MK4 Hatch Emblem Removal

Описание к видео DIY: Volkswagen Golf MK4 Hatch Emblem Removal

Video tutorial on how to remove the hatch VW emblem on a Volkswagen Golf MKIV. There are no pins in behind the emblem and you can remove it if you are planning on shaving the hatch, replacing it with a new emblem, or are making a custom emblem. The MKIV body style was found between the years 1999.5 to 2004. This particular tutorial was done on a 2002 Volkswagen Golf MKIV.

Tools/Supplies Needed:
-fishing line or dental floss
-small nylon wedge
-heat gun or hair dryer

Procedure:
-wash the hatch to ensure no dirt rubs on the paint surface which can scratch the paint
-using a heat gun or hair dryer to warm up the emblem, but this isn't necessary for me as the hatch has been sitting out in the sun for a good portion of the day
-using fishing line or dental floss, insert it between the rubber gasket and the painted surface
-you can start with any side, I am starting from the top as it's most convenient
-work the fishing line or dental floss back and forth is a sawing motion to cut away the adhesive
-once you are about half way, insert a wedge at the side you started between the paint and emblem to prevent the fishing line or dental floss from binding up
-once you have cut about 75% of the adhesive, it can now be removed by hand
-slowly pull it off the hatch, not using excessive force as you can crack the emblem
-once removed, using a heat gun or air dryer, soften up the foam adhesive and slowly peal it off
-use rubbing alcohol to remove any left over glue residue
-when reinstalling the emblem, the foam double side tape can be purchased at your local auto parts supplier in various lengths and widths
-if you are replacing with a new emblem, the new emblem should already have the adhesive preinstalled
