National Youth Parliament 2024 at Agaram Public School, Dharapuram
On 14th September 2024, coinciding with the International Day of Democracy, which is on 15th September 2024,Agaram Public School, Dharapuram, hosted its second edition of the National Youth Parliament. The event was a grand simulation of the Indian Parliament's Lower House (Lok Sabha), with the active participation of fifty-five student delegates. Graced by esteemed former Member of Parliament, Dr. S. K. Kharventhan, 14th Lok Sabha (2004-2009) SANSAD RATNA AWARDEE alongside the parents, faculty, and students, the session highlighted the school's commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders.
In his opening address, Mr. Gnanapandithan Muthusamy, Principal and Managing Director of the school, emphasized the critical role of youth in fortifying the democratic fabric of the nation and urged the young parliamentarians to contribute to building a strong and vibrant India.
Dressed in formal Indian attire, the delegates assumed the roles of government and opposition speakers, delving into various critical issues. The Question Hour was marked by vigorous debates on pressing matters such as the plight of Indian fishermen, the Israel-Palestine conflict, the growing problem of unemployment, and the potential of tourism as a driver of economic growth. These discussions showcased the students' awareness and engagement with national and global challenges.
The Calling Attention Motion addressed issues like the need for a comprehensive Census, concerns over the national budget, India's ongoing energy crisis, border disputes, and the urgent matter of climate change. This segment reflected the delegates' understanding of contemporary policy debates and their implications for India’s future.
During the Adjournment Motion, topics of federalism and women’s safety were raised with great seriousness, sparking passionate discussions that revealed the students’ grasp of the social and political challenges the country faces.
The Legislative Motion was a highlight of the session. The introduction of the Waqf Bill and the consideration of the Broadcasting Bill underscored the importance of legislative processes in addressing societal needs.
The event concluded with refreshments and an energized cohort of students who eagerly look forward to the next session of the Youth Parliament. Their enthusiasm and commitment to understanding democratic principles left a lasting impression on the audience, paving the way for future discussions that will shape tomorrow's India.
