Rescuers and grieving relatives gathered on decks of ships and the banks of the Yangtze River on Sunday morning to mourn the victims of the Eastern Star capsizing tragedy that claimed more than 400 lives.

The participants observed three minutes of silence, while vessels sounded siren for those lost on the cruise ship when it was overturned on the night of June 1 on the Jianli section of the Yangtze River.

The brief ceremony, which marks the seventh day of the disaster, also took place on the rescue vessels that are supporting the hoisted ship.

The Eastern Star death toll climbed to 406 as of Sunday morning, out of the 456 on board. Only 14 have survived, and 36 others still remain missing. It is believed to be the deadliest accident in China in decades.

Rescuers have expanded their search over the river's lower reaches for those still missing, according to China's State Council Information Office. More on: http://newscontent.cctv.com/NewJsp/ne...
