Julian Assange has walked out of a US court in Saipan in the Pacific a free man, returning to Australia tonight to reunite with his wife and two children.

The Wikileaks founder mentered a guilty plea to a single felony charge in a deal struck with the US Department of Justice, ending more than a decade in detention.

Kenya's army has been deployed to quell nationwide protests that broke out over a controversial bill to raise taxes. At least 13 people have been shot dead in the violence, and that toll could rise.
