Modern India/Modern Indian History/Indian Freedom Struggle is an integral portion of UPSC Civil services examination and other competitive examinations. The portion accounts for a significant portion of questions in prelims as well as Mains in the UPSC every year as also a huge number of questions are specifically asked in the state services and other competitive examinations.
This period starts from the Arrival of Europeans to India, to their Consolidation and then the start of India's struggle for independence. Ultimately the freedom struggle consolidated after the revolt of 1857 and then the arrival of Gandhiji lent the much needed sharpness in the freedom struggle. Also throughout this freedom struggle were present the ideologies of Sociocultural Reforms, Moderates, Extremists and revolutionaries in various personalities and in different faces.
Finally with the outbreak of Second World War and the circumstances in Great Britain the conditions became ripe for India's independence.
India's freedom struggle is the only struggle to have taken place with non violence and Satyagraha occupying the pivot positions throughout in the freedom struggle of any country.
