KELTEC FAILURE! It Finally Happened.

"KelTecs are unreliable". You hear that all the time. Well, I finally experienced a failure with my KelTec P32. Not only that, but it locked up the gun completely, and wasn't something that could be addressed with immediate action.

When I took the Nonpermissive Environment class with Bolke, Burch, and Haggard, I had my P32 lock up on me in the middle of a string of fire. During the ceasefire, I was able to diagnose it as Rim Lock!

Rim lock is when the rim of the top cartridge in the magazine has worked its way behind the rim of the round below it. 32s are especially prone to this because of the casing design.

Thankfully Legendary Lawman Marshal Chuck Haggard was present and shared an observation with me about how case profiles can help prevent rim lock.

As it turns out, European manufactured brass has a more beveled rim that makes it easier for the top round to skip over the one beneath it, and feed like normal.
