Описание к видео How BIM Can Help Cities Prepare for the Next Disaster

“I’ve never really chased marks. I’ve always chased understanding.”

In this episode of The Indian EdTech Story, Sabarinathan, a structural engineer and alumnus of Novatr’s BIM Civil Program, shares a way of thinking that goes far beyond drawings, grades, or software.

Growing up across Tamil Nadu, moving cities, schools, and communities, Sabari learned early that change is constant — and that understanding matters more than outcomes.

In this conversation, he imagines a future where engineering works more like the gaming industry:
where cities exist as living 3D systems,
where data is accessible, visual, and dynamic,
and where disasters are prepared for before they happen.

Using BIM, geospatial data, and digital workflows, Sabari explains how:

Entire cities can be mapped in 3D

Floods, cyclones, and infrastructure stress can be simulated in advance

Temporary shelters and evacuation strategies can be planned proactively

Lives and property can be protected through data, not reaction

This is not about creating models faster.
It’s about using technology to think better, act earlier, and build responsibly.

Today, Sabarinathan works as a BIM Implementation Engineer at Modulus Housing, IIT Madras Research Park, where he continues to apply this mindset — blending engineering, data, and purpose.

This is the story of an engineer who chose understanding over marks, depth over shortcuts, and growth over comfort.
