This automatic core loading system improves manufacturing operations by removing safety hazards while increasing cycle time. Similar systems can be designed to fit any winder or rewinding system.

In the past, operators would be in the dangerous position of loading or unloading cores by hand onto winder mandrels. In this system, the robot loads cores onto a winder mandrel using a multi-pronged, indexing turret, underhung from a robotic bridge. The cores are unloaded using a separate robotic arm.

The smaller diameter cardboard cores arrive in a buffer queue and the robotic turret sense which cores are present and move them to the singulator table.

The cores are then singulated onto a core pusher conveyor.

An overhead robotic core pusher then removes newly wound cores, from the winder mandrel and indexes them into a packaging queue.

New cores are then slid onto the empty mandrel for the winding of new film from parent rolls.
