China has reaffirmed its commitment to stabilising grain and edible oil production, following key decisions taken at the Central Rural Work Conference held from December 29–30, according to state news agency Xinhua.

The high-level meeting, which sets China’s annual agricultural priorities, emphasized food security, improved grain varieties, and enhanced crop quality. Authorities pledged to strengthen the country’s diversified food supply capacity and accelerate the development of high-standard farmland through zoned and categorized planning.

China’s push comes amid its heavy dependence on agricultural imports and ongoing tensions with the United States, a major global supplier. These factors have accelerated Beijing’s drive toward greater self-sufficiency, supported by increased investment in advanced machinery, seed technology, and modern farming practices.
