The Player That Was Kind of A Star! What Happened To Antonio McDyess? Stunted Growth

Antonio McDyess didn’t have a dominating college career for the only 2 years it lasted, but had spurts where he looked like the best player in the NCAA. Maybe it was his final game in college, where he had 22 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in the NCAA tournament that impressed the Clippers enough to take him before a total of what would be 5 all star and a hall of famer, then Denver giving up what they did in trade to get him not long after draft night. Antonio McDyess began his career with lots of promise. First off when you talk about a high motored guy, that played with unmovable strength, jumped out the gym and down the lane with tomahawk dunks in traffic, and wasn’t the one to backdown to anyone, Antonio McDyess was the perfect description, early on. Key word early. In his first 6 seasons in the league he averaged 18 points 9 rebounds and played 70 or more games, or a full season considering the 98-99 lockout every year. He was reliable, high energy, great pick and roll guy and he had seasons in that span that showed just how valuable he was to his teams. He was named an all star in 00-01, averaging 20.8 point and a career high 12 rebounds. Finally at 26 Mcdyess was showing the potential seen in him as an ammeter. But who knew before 30 he would become a 2% shell of himself, roll player and bench guy who was kind’ve a star, but things never ultimately came together long term. What happened to Antonio McDyess’ potential?
