What's up everyone, Climbot here with Devlog 3.
Real talk: I spent a week rewatching the same tutorial every single day. By day 5, I realized I'm a complete fraud. Not learning, just copy-pasting and hoping it sticks. This is the devlog where I admit that and change everything.
THE PROBLEM
I was trying to build Beacon Rest—full mystery lighthouse keeper game with day/night cycles, inventory, NPC dialogue, and a complete story—while learning Godot for the first time, working full-time, in one hour a day. That's not indie dev. That's setting myself up to fail.
THE PIVOT
Scaled Beacon Rest down to 16x16 pixel sprites (simpler, faster)
Building separate side projects: Movement system, Inventory system, Day/Night cycle
Practicing until I UNDERSTAND, not just until it works for a devlog
Depth over speed. One mechanic at a time.
WHAT I LEARNED
Tutorial following isn't the same as learning. Practice is.
One hour building beats two hours copying code.
Smaller scope isn't failure—it's strategy.
THE TOOLS
Game Engine: Godot 4.5
Pixel Art: Aseprite
Learning: Udemy - "Make 2D Art for Video Games" by GameDev.tv
Project Management: Basecamp
THE GAME
Beacon Rest - 1977 lighthouse keeper mystery
Kai Santos - Former maritime cartographer hiding from tragedy
The last keeper vanished, leaving only: "The light must never fail. The ocean remembers everything."
WHAT'S NEXT
Devlog 4: Building my first complete side project - a movement system. Walk, run, dash, jump. Going DEEP. No rushing.

We're at 2K heading to 5K. Let's get there together.
Drop a comment: What's YOUR go-to when you feel like a fraud?
Climbot out. Back to coding.
