Описание к видео RE: Alex O'Connor - Every Argument for Atheism - Brain Activity Natural or Supernatural in Origin?

RE: Alex O'Connor - Every Argument for Atheism - Is Brain Activity Natural or Supernatural in Origin?

Atheist says, "Spiritual experiences can be explained by brain chemicals."

Christian says "Romantic experiences can also be explained by brain chemicals, but this does not mean your spouse isn't real. So spiritual experiences being explained by brain chemicals doesn't mean that God isn't real."

Alex agrees because every experience of the brain whether natural in origin or not will be describable in terms of brain chemicals. Alex says a better argument. Alex says the better argument is what caused the activity in the brain? Love simply being chemicals in the brain doesn't prove that one's spouse doesn't exist, but if no experience that Alex has ever had was caused by something in the natural realm, would the theist think that Alex's wife was a supernatural entity that his brain is intercepting, or would the theist think that Alex's wife doesn't exist and that Alex's brain has invented her?

To me, a layperson, not an expert in science, it seems fairly obvious that the brain is an incredible structure whose structure and function defies easy explanations. Science tells us much about how the world works. There are many wonderful things that scientists have discovered that explain much about how our world works. It is obvious that both theists and atheists can care about science and can be successful scientists if
they believe in God or not.
To believe in God requires faith. But it is not a blind faith. One of the previous responses in this series dealt with the ‘God of the Gaps’ objection that atheists wrongly claim theists posit when science does not have an answer for a specific question. The takeaway from that response video was that the theists don’t invoke God because of what they do not know. They invoke God because of what they do know.
Likewise, many atheists fail to recognize that their worldview also requires faith. They trust science to finally figure out the answers to things that they do not yet know.
When we consider how complex the brain is, it becomes more difficult to believe by faith that the intricate function of the brain could have evolved like materialists would have us to believe.
Let’s listen to neuroscientist Peter Line, a theist, describe the brain’s function. By doing so, it should be plain to most of us if we can consider what is being said objectively that the naturalism alone can-not sufficiently explain the brain’s origins and activity.
Dr Peter Line, B. App. Sc., M.App.Sc., Ph.D., is a neuro scientist whose research specialty is the electrophysiology of the brain. Before retiring he was a lecturer in the Biomedical Science area, including teaching neuroanatomy and skeletal muscle bio-physics, at an Australian university.
Dr. Line says scientists say the brain is the most complex organ. The structure and function of each main part of the brain is discussed.
Dr. Line says this most complex organ could not have evolved for various reasons:

1. Dr. Line estimates there are an estimated 86 billion nerve cells.
2. The glial cells which support the rest of the brain need to have been there for the brain to function.
3. There are over three thousand different types of cells in the brain. Due to the amount of different types of cells in the brain, the complexity of the brain’s structure increases dramatically.
4. There are at least a hundred trillion connections between nerve cells.
5. There 150 kilometers – 180 kilometers of nerve fibers.
Instead of dealing with random complexity, this is functional complexity. The information has to already be encoded in the DNA. Mindless unguided random processes are not intelligent enough to build it let alone cause it to function for the duration of a human lifetime.

Dr. Line asks if all this is the result of an unguided process, why is it all so orderly – neat and packaged like Someone designed it that way so we could understand it?

Dr. Line lists multiple reasons why the brain could not have evolved.

Dr. Line lists multiple examples how the brain’s complexity appears to defy materialistic explanations.
