[additional translation commentary]
this translation isn’t perfect at all! there are parts where i’ve reworded things so they make more sense in english, as multilinguals watching the video will say. such is the beauty and difficulty of linguistic difference and translation; no two translations will be the same.

in the case of french-english, if you translate things directly, things tend to sound quite old-fashioned and formal, which is why i’ve taken this liberty. while sentence structures between french & english aren’t drastically different (as is the case with japanese, where verbs don’t appear until the end of the sentence), french sentences often omit context which, if translating directly, makes the english a little confusing (for me at least). but that’s why i add context back in or phrase things “oppositely”, such as what i did with the aku riding atsushi scene (aku literally says “this seat isn’t stable” (?), which makes little sense in the english!). again, any suggestions for translations are welcome! i realise i’ve geeked out a bit here, and probably bored you a bit, but i felt this was important to say.

tldr: i tried to make things as idiomatic in english as possible!

anyways. a couple more details which i wanted to share below about the nuances with the french translation (since language nuances translate differently from japanese into french vs japanese into english):

at (2:37), dazai literally says, “you got me used to better, my little chuuya!”, as in, chuuya set the standards high (for threatening him i guess?!)
-- about the possessive “mon” (my): in the french dub, dazai uses this w/ terms of ‘endearment’ a LOT with several characters (kunikida, chuuya, atsushi etc). if ever i put out the french skk vid (see the pinned comment) you’ll see! it sounds a lot more natural/normal in french than in english, though.

dazai calling chuuya his “doggy” (3:57) is also a direct translation of “toutou”, which is a childish way of saying dog. therefore doggy :)

for dazai’s suicide song: i know he says ‘quand on est seul, c’est malheureux’. i translated 'malheureux' as ‘won’t work’ since ‘unfortunate’ didn’t quite feel right to me; i also feel ‘malheureux’ has the extra implication of misfortune, if that makes sense. i definitely overthought this (especially considering that this is just a silly little anime compilation video) but that’s fun to me HLSADJJLDKS

nikolai at (4:03) says ‘en voiture!’, which some people translate as ‘all aboard’. i went with the same since i wasn’t quite sure how to tackle this. again, suggestions welcome! i’m also not very familiar with curse words in french, but i did my best — so feel free to correct me on any of those! (there’s a reason i chose to use the youtube subtitles instead, so i could easily edit in any corrections loooool)

my favourite thing about the french dub is easily dazai. and akutagawa, actually (his yells are great!). french nikolai is also amazing! i love the french dub for bsd if this video didn’t make that abundantly clear

anyways. thank you for reading this if you did. if i don't get another ‪‪str!k3 i'll post a french dub skk video :D but we shall see... c0pyr!ght has been especially tough on me this year :(
