“The room was buzzing… I’ve rarely seen such engaged viewers,” wrote producer/writer Tira Shubart, a veteran of such events, of this full-house screening. It certainly put to rest my main apprehension - how John and Anna McCarthy would respond to seeing BLIND FLIGHT again after a very long time (its last public screenings were in 2004) and also how their son Eoghan would react. The words and emotions we shared afterwards could not have been more cathartic, and Eoghan rushing up to embrace his dad after the Q & A (at the end of this 5-minute video) was deeply touching.

I was blessed with two remarkable colleagues Brian (Keenan) and John (McCarthy) in the writing of their story's screenplay and in having two brilliant script editors in Channel Four’s then Head of Development Jack Lechner and my longstanding script consultant Archie Tait to help refine it. It was the spirit of Brian’s and John’s story, bottled in the screenplay, that inspired the whole production team to the limits of what we could all give to the making of the film, with myself something of its spirit guide.

I can only stress again how much the film owes to the creative talents in all departments who added immeasurably to what's on the screen.
