Building and Testing an 8ft Origami Folding Dinghy | Land Rats | EP31

We've got a folding Dinghy. A Self-built Wooden Origami folding dinghy to be exact. Quite a while ago we were doing research on dinghies and originally wanted to buy/build some sort of Nesting Dingy so we could save as much space as possible while having a dinghy as big as possible. It was then we stumbled upon Woodenwidget and everything they have available. My brother had just bought a bunch of power tools and wanted to test them out so we decided to Buy the plans so he can start building our Tender for us.

He prepared the wood and built and glued most of the keel and panels, leaving us with just a bit of work that you'll see in this video. It took a while to get it 100% but we finally got there and could take it out for a test run.

All and All we are quite happy with the little origami Dinghy, unfortunately, the 4hp mariner outboard that we have available appears to be a bit too heavy and long to work well with the dinghy, Especially with two fat Oakes in the boat as well. We also got the wrong row blocks so it's a bit difficult to row. But should be fine as soon as we get a better set.

The plan is currently to get a trolling motor to use with the dinghy but we'll only be able to know how well it will suit us when we get to the ocean. I think it should be okay. It takes like no space. Our initial plan was to build two. One for port one for Starboard hence the color. Time is running a bit low so that might be a future project. Where wood is cheaper as well!
