STORYLINE:

The suicide bomber who blew herself up at an Israeli Army roadblock at the entrance to the West Bank has been identified as Dareen Abu Aisheh, a 21-year-old English literature student.

She attended Najah University in the West Bank town of Nablus, adjacent to Balata.

Abu Aisheh was the second woman to blow herself up since the fighting began in September 2000.

She just got out of her car and blew herself up.

That's how the Israeli police commander described the overnight suicide bombing of this Israeli army road block on a Tel Aviv/Jerusalem road.

The bomber, Dareen Abu Aisheh, was killed and the two Palestinians who were in the car with her seriously wounded.

Brought the news by police in the morning, her family received the condolences of relatives and friends.

Abu Aisheh's mother, Wafika, said her daughter was extremely brave to have carried out the attack.

She believes that what provoked her daughter was the recent killing of the husband of a pregnant woman by Israeli troops.

She was also moved by the funeral of a ten-year-old boy from her village.

She had dipped her handkerchief in his blood, she said, and written him a farewell note.
