I know there are all kinds of opinions out there on the mute in the Edison Horn. It was put there on purpose because a lot of people didn't want the phonograph blasting them out of the room. And personally I have had people to say can't you turn it down, which I do. The "True Tone Diaphragm" was a long project but eventually ended up giving the records a full range of sound. At the time I started to search for better sounds the current diaphragms were flat and distant sounding. I quit making them after about 500 people owned them. And when which was the purpose to encourage others to come up with suitable designs as well, which two people did, and I was happy that they did. Some times I think tonally speaking mine holds its own pretty well. To determine the actual volume of the four selections I am putting up raise you volume level on a computer to the point where its very loud sounding in the loud parts. Thats what it does in person. The mute ball to me if any sound is being missed isn't harming anything and the ablity to reduce the sound when you want to is more important than always being over powered by the music. I am using a my standard Diaphragm with an Edisonic Reproducer. The poor Chippendale doesn't get much attention on line but is fun to play when I do my walking around the large basement.
