This video will help you understand the concept of isoelectric point, or pI, for short amino acid chains or peptides, followed by a time-saving shortcut to find pI without a calculator.
We begin with a review of the zwitterion, and how to compare pH and pKa values to determine if an ionizable group will be protonated or deprotonated, starting with individual amino acids to review.
Next you’ll learn my simple approach and shortcut for finding the pI on a peptide chain when you have 2 or more ionizable side chains.
You'll see both the MCAT simplified values, as well as specific pKa tables if required for your biochemistry class
