Tuf-Line Supercast promises to be a fully encapsulated braid offering the advantages of braid and the handling of mono. Upon using it and inspecting it I found out a few things. FIrst, it is not actually a braid. It is composed of many fibers, but not braided on one and other. Second, the sheathing is hydrophobic. This means the line is highly buoyant and absorbs / retains almost no water. The line can be made flat when pressure is applied, but comes round from the factory. I found the line to not be as limp as a "broken in" braid (in this case Power Pro Slick 8). With regard to its name, SuperCast, it may or may not. A good test would be pitting it against Tuf-Line's own XP in a casting distance comparison. Because the sheathing on the Supercast is an actual sheath and not a thin coating, the line strength is not what most are used to for a given diameter of mono equivalent. Supercast offers 2x stregth vs 4x of most every other braid. Overall it is a cool innovation, but I'm not sure the advantages are enough. In lieu of its name I can't imagine it casts appreciably further than many of the other, new, slick braids of today. So its advantage then becomes its quietness if that sort of thing really bugs you. Color change / UV resistance and the longevity of the sheath's integrity will be seen over the course of the fishing season.
