Metzeler 6 Days Extreme Enduro Tire Review -    • Metzeler 6 Days Extreme Enduro Motorc...

We are always on the hunt for the best enduro tire. Most recently we have been running the Pirelli Scorpion MX32 mid soft front dirt bike tire and have found a lot of things we like and dislike about it for the our terrain and style of riding we do. Obviously there is no perfect tire for every possible terrain type so it's worth noting that we are mostly riding in Souther California which has a mix of hard rocky trails, desert, forest single track, sand, and soft loamy hills. The most consistent factor is that it is usually dry and hard terrain that we ride.

We were previously running the Metzeler 6 Days Extreme enduro tire but after several years of running that particular tire we noticed that the soft carcass was prone to getting punctured on the rough terrain that we ride. We are running Nuetech Tubliss in the front and rear which in the Metzeler tire would cause us to have to use a lot of tire plugs that sometimes wouldn't hold up. This spurred the hunt for a tire that had a similar tread pattern but also had a harder carcass that wouldn't puncture as easily.

This is when we started running the Pirelli Scorpion MX32 tire. In a lot of ways the Pirelli is a great tire that has a very similar tread pattern to the Metzeler and we haven't been able to tell the difference in terms of traction performance. The rubber compound is much stiffer and of the two of the Pirelli tires that we have run we have only put one hole in them. That was easily patched with a plug and doesn't seem to be having any further issues. The draw backs to having a harder compound rubber is that the knobs will chunk out easier. We also noticed that with the harder rubber in conjunction with the lower tire pressure we run with the TUBliss that the sidewall of the tire will crack from the repeated flexing of the side wall.

So far we have run down two of these tires to the nub and are pretty happy with their performance. Pirelli made a solid enduro tire that is very durable. You will start to see this tire chunk out earlier than I would like (especially if you are like us an you like to run the tire all the way down) but at the same time they won't be ruined by a sharp rock or stick early on.
