The Dharahara Tower, also known as the Bhimsen Tower, was a historic landmark in Kathmandu, Nepal. Unfortunately, it was severely damaged during the devastating 2015 Nepal earthquake.

Before the Earthquake:

Built in 1832 by Prime Minister Bhimsen Thapa
61.88 meters (203 feet) tall

2015 Earthquake Damage:

Collapsed on April 25, 2015, during the 7.8-magnitude earthquake
Only the base of the tower remained intact

Reconstruction:

Rebuilding began in 2018

Height increased to 72 meters (236 feet)
22-story tower with elevators and stairs

Reopened on April 24, 2022, coinciding with the 7th anniversary of the earthquake
