Recorded at Capitol Records Studio A in Hollywood, CA, The Direct Disc Sound of The Glenn Miller Orchestra was produced on consecutive weekends while the band was performing a two-week engagement at Disneyland in August, 1977. This selection was transferred to digital format from my pristine original issue direct-to-disc LP using the finest playback equipment and mastering software. Direct to disc recording was a process several smaller record labels initiated in the mid 1970s in response to the growing demand among audiophiles for increased fidelity in record reproduction. It required recording an entire side of an LP with no mistakes or possibility of sonic manipulation or re-mixing. These recordings are considered by many to be the pinnacle of audio fidelity to this day. Jimmy Henderson, who led The Glenn Miller Orchestra from 1975-1981, was a prominent trombonist and bandleader, having been a member of the Hal McIntyre, Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy Dorsey and Lawrence Welk orchestras. His distinguished career led him to Los Angeles where he became a session musician on numerous TV and motion picture soundtracks, as well as fronting his own LA-based orchestra which served many Hollywood industry functions including the Emmy Awards and Directors Guild of America Awards.
