In factories, there are numerous and often untapped opportunities to reduce overall energy consumption or peak loads. Furthermore, numerous acceleration and braking processes of electric drives result in grid fluctuations with considerable power peaks. These in turn can damage the electrical equipment. To prevent excessive stress, the electrical installation is often oversized, which leads to losses in partial load conditions and causes higher costs for the grid connection. However, the energy supply and distribution design is usually determined with a spreadsheet and generously rounded to compensate for uncertainty factors.

In the webinar, you will learn how a customized, user-friendly software could take into account all common energy storage technologies. This software is currently being developed in the funded project "Energy Storage in Production" (ESiP).

The research approach comprises manifold application scenarios for a wide range of machines and systems. It will also cover the comparison of individual storage technologies to the requirements in industrial production. Additionally, the integration of locally generated photovoltaic electricity also plays a vital role in energy management. In a factory, the direct consumption of solar electricity can be just as valuable as its intermediate storage. Thus, the algorithms of the ESiP software will also be able to take hybrid storage systems into account. Moreover, factors such as ageing, size, weight and environmental conditions are considered for an optimal design of energy storage systems. In the end, all project results will tested and validated on a real demonstrator.
