On this special Mbongi (Sunday Nov. 29th, 11AM Eastern), we will have a Memoration-Dialogue with an esteemed panel of scholars on the life and work of the late Kimbwandende kia Bunseki Fu-Kiau, PhD of Kongo. The objective of the online conference is to highlight, celebrate, and educate the public on the life and work of Dr. Fu-Kiau, as told to us by the people who knew him best. Scheduled to be on the program is Dr. Barbaro Martinez-Ruiz, (Tata) Alexander LaSalle, (Tata) Charles Daniel Dawson, and (Yaya) Manuela Arciniegas. Dr. Fu-Kiau (1934 - 2013) was a Congolese native and scholar of African religion, art, and anthropology, who captured the essence of Kongo cosmology, philosophy, and African deep-thought.
Fu-Kiau Bunseki was Born in Minianga, Democratic Republic of Congo and holds degrees in the Cultural Anthropology (B.A.), School Administration (M.Ed.), Library Science (M.S.), and Education & Community Development (Ph.D.). He has been initiated into three major African education systems (Lemba, Kimkimba and Kimpasi) and founded the Luyalungunu Lwa Kumba-Nsi Institute, dedicated to exploring and documenting traditionally accumulated Kongo teachings for the post-colonial society and its institutions. He has published numerous books and articles in English including: African Cosmology of the Bântu-Kongo (1980, 2001), Kumina: A Kongo-based Tradition in the New World (1983), Kindezi: The Kongo Art of Babysitting (1988), Self-Healing Power and Therapy, Old Teachings from Africa (1991), Mbongi: An African Traditional Political Institution (2007), and Sîmba Sîmbi: Hold Up That Which Holds You Up (2006).
