Mestreech is neet breid, meh laank is the club song of the choir 'De chanting pótsvrouwe', founded in 1944 as 'De ghesellen van de sanck'. Under the leadership of Zjèf Penders, 'The singing pótsvrouwe' produced a number of LPs with Maastricht folk songs with great success in the 1970s.

Although the lyrics are not particularly strong, Mestreech is neet breid, meh laank became very popular and became known as Maastricht's second national anthem. The music is by Armand Preud'homme.
