My Turkish friend, Yağmur, took me to a big family wedding in Antalya.

She has a huge extended family, so there more than 1,000 people there.

What I found interesting about a Turkish wedding is that it begins in the evening, and as soon as you arrive you are served food. A 7 course meal is served throughout the wedding ceremony, and between courses everyone is dancing.

In a Scottish wedding it would start in the afternoon with the wedding ceremony, then there would be a meal, then there would be a party with dancing. In Turkish culture the ceremony, meal and party all happen at the same time.

The wedding began at 6 PM and ended at 1 AM and most of those 7 hours were spent dancing. I don't know how everyone has the energy to dance for so long.

The wedding was in Kemer, about 40 minutes down the coast from Antalya city centre. When we returned after the wedding it was 2 AM and we hit a kebab shop that was open late to eat some tasty Turkish food, including İçli Köfte (Stuffed Meatballs) and Lahmacun (Crispy flatbread with meat.)
