Decoded | EP 74 | Not just Manipur: All of Northeast is hostage to drugs

What is that one thing, which makes all of us living across state borders stand up and take notice? We are talking about the white elephant in the room i.e. drugs. From the valleys of Assam to the mountains of Arunachal and from the rivers of Meghalaya to the lakes of Tripura, drugs are perhaps second next to FMCG products when it comes to availability.

In fact, this was also highlighted by Meghalaya Social Welfare and Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh who underlined the close proximity of the state to the Golden Triangle and said that drug traffickers have been using the state as a transit route for the past few decades. He added that drugs brought into the state are no longer in small quantities, unlike a few years ago.
