It is so much more enjoyable to walk your dog when they can walk nicely in a heel position. They’re not pulling, they’re not trying to pee on or sniff everything in sight, they’re just in the moment, enjoying the walk with you. We stop for potty and exploration time at the beginning middle and end of each walk. But the human should always initiate the stops. This is how the dog learns not to drag you from pillar to post in an effort to sniff and explore everything. When you allow that behavior, you are teaching your dog that they are the leader. Which translates into worse behaviors when you get into a situation where your dog is either over excited or nervous and scared and can become reactive #structuredwalk #heelcommand #enjoyable
