Porsche 911 Dakar 2026 Reboot: GTS T-Hybrid Power & Rally-Inspired Performance!
The Porsche 911 Dakar was a bold, rally-inspired departure from the iconic sports car's usual design, and it looks like Porsche is doubling down on this unique variant with a revamped version for 2026. According to a recent report, the 992.2-generation 911 will get the Dakar treatment, and this time it will feature hybrid power, taking the rally-ready 911 to new performance heights.
The 2026 Porsche 911 Dakar will carry over the rugged design elements of the original, but with some significant upgrades under the hood. Instead of the 3.0-liter flat-six engine that powered the first Dakar, the new version will incorporate the electrified 3.6-liter motor developed for the 992.2 GTS. This hybrid engine combines traditional internal combustion power with electric assistance, offering a substantial boost in performance. Where the first Dakar’s engine produced 473 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, the updated hybrid powertrain will deliver 478 horsepower and the same torque, with an additional 53 horsepower and 110 lb-ft of torque from the electric motor.
One of the most exciting aspects of the new Dakar is the increase in acceleration. While the original Dakar reached 62 mph in 3.4 seconds, the 2026 version, thanks to its hybrid powertrain, is expected to come very close to matching the 2.9 seconds achieved by the hybrid GTS. This will make the Dakar T-Hybrid one of the fastest off-road-ready cars available, all while keeping the signature all-wheel-drive system and PDK paddle-shift transmission.
While the hybrid system is a game-changer for the Dakar, it’s important to note that the 1.9 kWh battery doesn’t allow for electric-only driving. This keeps the vehicle firmly in the realm of high-performance sports cars with added eco-friendly efficiency, rather than a full electric crossover.
As for production, Porsche is expected to limit the new Dakar to a select number of units, just as it did with the first version, which was capped at 2,500 cars. Given the added hybrid technology and the rally-inspired livery options, such as the Rothmans-style "Rally Design Package," the price will likely rise. In 2022, the original Dakar started at $220,020, and we can expect the new model to push that closer to $250,000, not including special paint or bespoke customization options.
For Porsche enthusiasts and collectors, the 2026 911 Dakar promises to be an even more exclusive and high-performance addition to the Porsche family, blending rally heritage with cutting-edge hybrid technology.
