Here’s the thing: lying is a natural human tendency

It’s the way that children experiment with boundaries and limits and try to find out how to get their needs met — albeit in a less than positive way

Understanding that lying is a natural thing that our child will try, can help us teach them why it is really important to tell the truth

Lies have consequences, and that consequence isn’t getting grounded or taking their phone away, it’s our loss of trust in them

And over time, a chronic loss of trust can create harm in our relationships and hurt the ones we love most, and even ourselves

It’s important for us to be the parent that our children feel safe to tell the truth to, as it gives them the best chance to practice the life skill of telling the truth
