In a lavish ceremony in the capital Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia enthroned its new Sultan on Wednesday. 84-year-old Sultan Abdul Halim, , became the first person to hold the position twice under Malaysia's unique rotating monarchy.

He also becomes the first king to reside at a newly-built palace. . Sultan Abdul Halim is the ruler of Kedah state in north Malaysia and he succeeded Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, In the ceremony, Sultan Abdul Halim took an oath to serve Malaysia as the head of state in a fair manner, uphold the Islamic faith and ensure a just government.

He praised Prime MinisterNajib Razak's leadership and reminded the government to ensure prosperity for all Malaysians. Since its independence from Britain in 1957, Malaysia has adopted a unique arrangement, which regulates the throne rotates every five years among the rulers of the nine Malaysian states.

The king is empowered with the utmost right in legislation, judiciary and administration. Queen Elizabeth ll also sent her greetings to Sultan Abdul Halim through the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.
