Q: Is there time in heaven? Do any ancient texts refer to this?

Everything in the material world, including heaven and hell, is controlled by Kala - Time. Each planetary system in the universe operates on its own Time.

Satya-loka is the topmost planetary system, and one day there is four billion and 320 million years here on Earth. The universe lasts for 311 trillion solar years, and that is also the life-span of the topmost demigod, creator god, Brahma.

In Svarga or Heaven, time goes considerable faster. One day and night there is like one year on earth. This means the residents of heaven, the gods, have life-spans of millions of earth years.

Still, everyone in the material world, whether humans or demigods, or even Brahma, the topmost demigod, will have to succumb to time. Time kills everyone.

Krishna says:

By human calculation, a thousand ages taken together form the duration of Brahma's one day (4.32 billion years). And such also is the duration of his night. (Bg. 8.17)

At the beginning of Brahma's day, all living entities become manifest from the unmanifest state, and thereafter, when the night falls, they are merged into the unmanifest again. (Bg. 8.18)

Again and again, when Brahma's day arrives, all living entities come into being, and with the arrival of Brahma's night they are helplessly annihilated. (Bg. 8.19)

Yet there is another unmanifest nature, which is eternal and is transcendental to this manifested and unmanifested matter. It is supreme and is never annihilated. When all in this world is annihilated, that part remains as it is. (Bg. 8.20)

That which the Vedantists describe as unmanifest and infallible, that which is known as the supreme destination, that place from which, having attained it, one never returns—that is My supreme abode. (Bg. 8.21)

Maitreya says:

The aggregate of two fortnights is one month, and that period is one complete day and night for the Pita planets. Two of such months comprise one season, and six months comprise one complete movement of the sun from south to north. —SB 3.11.11

Two solar movements make one day and night of the demigods, and that combination of day and night is one complete calendar year for the human being. The human being has a duration of life of one hundred years. —SB 3.11.12

Influential stars, planets, luminaries and atoms all over the universe are rotating in their respective orbits under the direction of the Supreme, represented by eternal kala. —SB 3.11.13

Srila Prabhupada explains:

In the Brahma-samhita it is stated that the sun is the eye of the Supreme and it rotates in its particular orbit of time. Similarly, beginning from the sun down to the atom, all bodies are under the influence of the kala-cakra, or the orbit of eternal time, and each of them has a scheduled orbital time of one samvatsara.✳
