连云港地处中国沿海中部、江苏省东北端，是新亚欧大陆桥东端起点、国家首批沿海开放城市、全国文明城市、国家园林城市和西游记文化发源地。陆域面积7615平方公里，海域面积7516平方公里，城市建成区面积310平方公里，户籍人口534.5万。辖东海、灌云、灌南3个县，赣榆、海州、连云3个区，以及国家级经济技术开发区、国家东中西区域合作示范区、云台山景区。
Lianyungang is located in China’s central coastal area and the northeast end of Jiangsu Province. It is the starting point of the eastern end of the New Eurasian Land Bridge, renowned as one of the first coastal open cities in China, a National Civilized City, a National Garden City, and the cultural origin of the novel Journey to the West. With a land area of 7,615 square kilometers and a sea area of 7,516 square kilometers, the city has a built-up area of 310 square kilometers and a household population of 5,345,000 people. It is divided into three counties (Donghai County, Guanyun County and Guannan County), and three districts (Ganyu District, Haizhou District and Lianyun District), as well as a national economic and technological development zone, a national demonstration zone for regional cooperation between the East, West and Central regions, and the Yuntai Mountain Scenic Area.
连云港山海相拥、港城相依，文化旅游资源丰富。这里有号称“东方天书”、距今约一万年的中国最古老的将军崖岩画，有距今4600年的藤花落史前城址，有比敦煌莫高窟早近300年的孔望山摩崖造像。孔子曾在此登山观海，秦始皇东巡至此并立石“秦东门”，徐福从这里东渡日韩。吴承恩受山海胜景与神话传说启迪写下《西游记》，李汝珍寓居板浦创作《镜花缘》。
With mountains, seas, harbors and urban area, Lianyungang is rich in cultural and tourism resources. It has the 10,000-year-old Jiangjun Cliff Petroglyphs,oldest of its kind in China, known as the “Oriental Book of Heaven”. It also has the prehistoric site of Tenghualuo with a history of 4,600 years, and cliff carvings on Kongwang Mountain which were nearly 300 years earlier than the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang. Confucius climbed the mountain and watched the sea from here; Emperor Qin Shi Huang came here on his east tour and erected the stone “East Gate of Qin”; and Xu Fu sailed to Japan and Korea from here. Wu Cheng’en, inspired by the scenic beauty of mountains and seas and by myths and legends, wrote Journey to the West; Li Ruzhen created The Marriage of Flowers in the Mirror when he lived in Banpu.
目前，全市拥有2个国家5A级景区、13个国家4A级景区，有美猴王孙悟空的老家——花果山、全国十大美丽海岛——连岛、海天胜境——海上云台山、东海温泉小镇、世界最大的水晶市场等特色资源，是江苏三大旅游资源富集区之一。拥有徐福传说、海州五大宫调、东海孝妇传说、淮盐制作技艺、淮海戏、东海水晶雕刻等6项国家级非物质文化遗产，有连岛东海琅琊郡界域刻石、将军崖岩画等9处国家级文物保护单位，是历史悠久、风光怡人的神奇浪漫之都。
Now the city is one of the three major tourism resource-rich areas in Jiangsu with two national 5A-level scenic spots, 13 national 4A-level scenic spots, and featured sites such as Mount Huaguo, the hometown of Sun Wukong, who also known as the Monkey King; Liandao Island, one of the top 10 beautiful islands in China; beautiful scenery of Yuntai Sea Mountain; Donghai Hot Spring Town; and the world’s largest crystal market. Known as a “City of Magic and Romance”, it has a long history and beautiful sceneries with six national intangible cultural heritage sites, namely, the legend of Xu Fu, the five Gong Diao (modes of ancient Chinese music) of Haizhou, the legend of East Sea filial wives, the Huai salt production technique, Huaihai opera, and Donghai crystal carving; as well as nine historical and cultural sites protected at the national level, including the stone carving at the boundary area of East Sea Langya County at Liandao Island and the Jiangjun Cliff Petroglyphs.
