On a beautiful, clear December day we visited the historical village of "Old Salem." The village is in Winston Salem, North Carolina and was the seed that grew into one of the state's major cities. Carved out of the early inland wilderness of what was then the Colony of North Carolina, a group of Moravian missionaries established Salem as an administrative center for a 100,000-acre tract of land they were granted which was known as the Wachovia Tract.
