The Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Schools Association (MSSASA) has announced that it will hold a general meeting at Malki Ground on October 6 at 11 am to deliberate on its three-point charter of demands.

MSSASA president, Aristotle Rymbai, said the meeting will focus on discussions held earlier with the state government regarding the grievances of SSA teachers.

The three key demands of the SSA teachers are strengthening the services of SSA teachers in the state, implementation of a proper pay structure to enhance salaries and deliberation on the Supreme Court’s September 1 order making it mandatory for all in-service teachers to clear the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET).

On September 1, in the case Anjuman Ishaat-E-Taleem Trust vs State of Maharashtra & Others, the Supreme Court ruled that all teachers, including those already in service, must clear the TET within two years. The verdict has raised serious concerns in Meghalaya, where nearly 10,000 SSA teachers have yet to clear the test and now face the possibility of losing their jobs.
