A recent viral video claimed that Silicon Valley moved to Austin... and regretted it. As someone who has lived in Austin for 34 years and works at the center of Austin's tech ecosystem, I had to respond.

Yes, we’ve had explosive growth. Yes, the housing market surged and has now cooled. And yes, it gets hot in the summer. But the story of Austin Tech isn’t one of regret. It’s one of resilience, reinvention, and real community.

This video is a direct response to the viral narratives that cherry-pick short-term data and heatwave anecdotes to write off a city that continues to be one of the most dynamic innovation hubs in America.

Key Austin Tech Takeaways in This Video:

Austin’s big tech jobs grew 44% from 2017 to 2023. A 1.6% dip in 2024 isn’t a collapse... it’s a correction.

Housing prices are still higher than in 2019, despite recent market fluctuations.

The myth of “6 months of scorching heat” is exaggerated. Three hot months do not define a city. (Some places get very cold and still are good places to live. Why are people so freaked out about 100 degrees. Be resilient.
