The Supreme Court of India has launched an unprecedented crackdown on rising “digital arrest” scams by directing the CBI to conduct a nationwide investigation. With nearly ₹3,000 crore already stolen—mostly from senior citizens—the Court said “enough is enough” and ordered all States to grant immediate consent for CBI action.

The agency will also work with Interpol to identify international cybercrime hubs. Banks and telecom operators have come under scrutiny for enabling mule accounts and careless SIM issuance. The RBI must explore using AI and ML to track money laundering. The Court insists coordinated national action is now essential.
