Set against the backdrop of social change in the 1970s, Carol Jerrems's photography charted the women's movement, documented First Nations activism, put a spotlight on youth subcultures, and explored the era's music and arts scenes.

A new exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery of Australia showcasing 144 works spans the entirety of Jerrems's career, ending with the series she made during treatment in hospital before she died at the age of 30.
