Raw Footage of 1990s Gaza - Israeli Occupation and Rise of Hamas (1994)

On 21 October 1994, ITN's cameras filmed the rhythms of daily life in Israeli-occupied Gaza. Following the Oslo Accords of 1993, the newly-established Palestinian Authority was responsible for limited governance of Gaza while Israel maintained strict control of the territory's borders and security. As well as filming Gazans working, worshipping and playing in the streets, cameras also found evidence of growing support for the movement that was challenging the Palestine Liberation Organization's monopoly on the cause of Palestinian resistance. A full decade before Hamas would seize power in Gaza, graffiti and murals daubed the walls in images and slogans of the movement that would eventually replace the PLO as the dominant force in Gazan politics.
