Welcome to my channel, In this video I will explain Nutrition, Food and Nutrients.
Nutrition is the study of nutrients in food, how the body uses them, and the relationship between diet, health, and disease.
Types of Nutrients: Nutrients are substances that are essential for life. They are broadly classified into two categories: macronutrients and micronutrients.
Macronutrients
Macronutrients are the nutrients that your body needs in larger amounts to provide energy and build and repair tissues. They are the primary building blocks of your diet and are essential for growth, metabolism, and other vital functions. Macronutrients can be divided into three main categories:
1. Carbohydrates:They are the body's main source of energy, and they come in two forms: simple (sugars) and complex (starches).
2. Proteins: Composed of amino acids, proteins are essential for growth, repair, and maintaining body tissues.
3. Fats: They provide energy, store excess calories, and are vital for hormone production and nutrient absorption.
Water is also sometimes considered a macronutrient because it's needed in large quantities, though it doesn't provide energy.
Micronutrients
Micronutrients, on the other hand, are nutrients required by the body in smaller amounts, but they're equally important for good health. While they don't provide energy like macronutrients, they play critical roles in supporting various physiological functions. Micronutrients include:
1. Vitamins: Organic compounds that are essential for growth, metabolism, immune function, and more. They're categorized into water-soluble (e.g., Vitamin C, B Vitamins) and fat-soluble (e.g., Vitamin A, D, E, K).
2. Minerals: Inorganic substances that are crucial for bone health, fluid balance, and several other functions. Examples include calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc.
3. Fibers: Fibers helps in digestion of food.
